Nearly one quarter of imported clothes made in China
In the first five months of 2007, the Netherlands imported clothes with a total value of 2.8 billion euro. Nearly one quarter ((618 million euro) was made in China. Two thirds are clothes for women and babies. Part of the clothes imported from China is re-exported to other countries in Europe.
Since 2005, China has ousted Germany as the Netherlands’ largest supplier of clothes. In the period January through May 2007, the Netherlands imported clothes worth 513 million euro from Germany. With 258 million euro, Turkey is the third largest supplier of clothes.
