Wellness sector booming
The number of wellness centres, including fitness centres, saunas, solariums and spas increased by one third to more than 2,400 in the period 2001–2006. Most wellness centres are small: 85 percent employed fewer than 5 people at the beginning of 2006, but the number of larger centres (employing 5 or more people) has nearly doubled to just under 400. Employment also increased noticeably. By the end of 2005, there were 11 thousand jobs in the wellness sector as against 6.3 thousand at the end of 2000.
The sector obviously benefits from the fact that more and more people pay attention to their physical well-being.
