Life shortening period

The estimated period of time by which a patient’s life is shortened.
The shortening of life refers only to deaths involving end-of-life decision-making ((43 percent of all deaths).
For each answer category, the average reduction is taken as the middle point between the middle and the lower limit of the category. For each answer category the following values were taken:

  • more than 6 months: 6 months
  • 1 to 6 months: 2.25 months
  • 1 to 4 weeks: 1.75 weeks
  • 1 to 7 days: 2.5 days
  • less than 24 hours: 6 hours
