No-claims bonus and excess policies
Under the no-claims regulation, declared medical expenses are deducted from a no-claims bonus of 255 euro. The insured person receives the amount remaining at the end of the year. GP care, obstetric and maternity care, preventive screening and medical care covered by the supplementary health policies are not deducted from the no-claims bonus. In January 2005 the no-claims regulation has already been introduced for patients insured under the state-funded scheme. Under the new system it applies to all insured people over 18 years of age.
In addition, everyone can choose to take out an excess policy. They then have to pay for part of the costs themselves, in return for lower premium costs.
