Member states
Until May 2004 the European Union consisted of fifteen countries (EU 15): the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, Germany, France, Italy, Great Britain, Ireland, Denmark, Greece, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Finland and Austria.
Ten new countries joined the EU in 2004: Cyprus, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Poland, Slovakia and Slovenia. In 2007 Bulgaria and Rumania also joined.
At the time of writing not all figures were know for all the countries. Therefore not all countries are included in the graphs.
