Few solar panels sold for electricity generation
In 2005 and 2006, solar panels with a total capacity of 1.5 megawatt (MW) were sold on the Dutch market. The solar panel market has been low in recent years. In the period 2000–2004, the average was 8 MW annually. There was a peak in 2003 (20 MW) on account of subsidy schemes effective at that time.
Turnover of companies involved in the production of solar energy systems increased by half in 2006 relative to one year previously. This remarkable growth is caused by a stepped-up trade and production with other countries. The contribution of electricity generated by solar panels to renewable energy in the Netherlands in 2006 was nearly 0.4 percent.
