Wage tax puts extra billions into government coffers
In 2006, wage tax revenue increased by 15 percent to nearly 32 billion euro as a result of improved employment and wage increases. In the period 2003–2005, wage tax revenues declined by 2 billion euro.
Other tax revenue also increased on account of the favourable economic climate.
Consumer spending increased by 8 percent to 39 billion euro also pushing up VAT revenue. Company tax revenue grew by 5 percent, despite a 6 percent rate cut.
Revenue from environmental taxes increased most substantially in recent years. In eight years, revenues from environmental taxes have almost doubled.
