Rent rebate act

A new rent rebate act was introduced on 1 January 2006, replacing the old rent subsidy act. By means of the rebate, under certain conditions, the government contributes to the costs of rent.

The conditions for a rent rebate are personal. The tenant must be 18 year or older, or underage and married; the tenant and any cohabiters must have the Dutch nationality or a valid residence permit; cohabiters must be registered at the address concerned. The rented accommodation must comply with certain conditions set by the municipality, in terms of size and price, for example.
