Drop outs
The term drop-out refers to pupils who leave school without a basic qualification and are under the age of 23. The data solely refer to government-financed education. Pupils who drop out for a year and subsequently re-enter education are not counted if they have no basic qualification. A pupil has a basic qualification, if he/she has graduated from havo, vwo or mbo (level 2).
The figures on school drop-outs published in this article are provisional and indicate a maximum value. This is due to incomplete registration data, administrative errors and the lack of central registration of pupils in private education. The figures are provisional and require revision. More information on the method used can be found in StatLine publications on school drop-outs.
