Life expectancy without chronic disease
To determine the life expectancy without disease, a number of diseases were selected which have a substantial impact on mortality or the quality of life. Since 2001 the following chronic diseases have been included in the calculation of life expectancy without chronic disease.
• heart disease
• asthma/COPD
• cancer
• stroke
• diabetes mellitus
• chronic gastrointestinal disease
• rheumatoid disorders (3 variants)
• chronic backache
• arthritis
• high blood pressure
• migraine.
People who do not suffer from any of these disorders are considered to be “without chronic disease”. Questions on chronic disease are included in the Health and Labour module of the POLS.
