Number of bankruptcies hardly changed
In October 2006, 321 businesses and institutions (excluding one-man businesses) went bankrupt. This is 16 percent down on October 2005. In September, the number of bankruptcies was 309, a 31 percent decrease compared with September 2005. In the first ten months of 2006 the number of bankruptcies fell sharply compared with the same period last year.
As the number of businesses declared bankrupt in a particular month also depends on the number of days courts are in session, it may vary strongly from month to month. Therefore, the three-month average is a more reliable indicator. In October, it stood at 327 and almost equalled the number in the preceding month. For the moment, the sharp downward trend in bankruptcies does not seem to be continuing.
