Expenditure per student

Spending per student is relatively high in tertiary education because of the large amounts spent on research at universities. In this sector, research spending accounts for about 40 percent of total spending. Amounts spent on research in tertiary education are strongly affected by national infrastructures of research activities. For an accurate (international) comparison of spending per student/pupil, spending on research is left out of account.
