More than 420 companies and institutions bankrupt
More than 420 companies and institutions (excluding single-owner companies) were declared bankrupt in January 2006. This is 3 percent up on January 2005. In December, the number of bankruptcies exceeded 360. This is 16 percent down on December 2004.
The number of bankruptcies declared in a certain month is also dependent on the number of days the courts are in session, so they may fluctuate strongly from one month to the next. Therefore the moving three-month average gives a more accurate representation of the development. In January the average was 422, just a little more than the former moving three-month average.
For the whole of 2005, slightly fewer companies and institutions (excluding single-owner companies) were pronounced bankrupt than in 2004. For the year 2004, about the same number was pronounced bankrupt as in 2003.
