Increase in house prices slowing down

The increase in the price of existing houses has slowed down in the course of 2001. In January of this year the average house price was 197 thousand euro, 13.7 percent higher than twelve months previously. In October 2001 it was 208 thousand euro, only 5.9 percent higher than one year previously.

Family homes cost 11 thousand euro more on average

The average price of a one-family home has risen by 11 thousand euro in the course of this year. A similar development can be observed for prices of apartments. In October the average price for an apartment, 143 thousand euro, was 9.3 percent higher than in October 2000. In January the average price was 13.4 percent higher at 129 thousand euro.

Gooi region most expensive, Delfzijl cheapest

The most expensive houses are in the Gooi region (to the north of Utrecht). Family homes there cost on average 343 thousand euro in October this year. The agglomeration of The Hague came second with 313 thousand euro. The cheapest houses are in Delfzijl (in the north-east of the province Groningen). The average price of houses sold there is 109 thousand euro. The second cheapest region is Zeeuws-Vlaanderen (in the province Zeeland), where buyers paid 10 thousand euro more for a house.
