Over 5,000 deaths from non-natural causes in the Netherlands

In 1999 nearly 5,200 people died from a non-natural cause. This number has hardly changed in the past few years.

However, there have been shifts between the various non-natural causes. In 1999, for example, over 200 hundred more people died from accidents at home than in the previous year. The number of people killed in traffic accidents was also slightly higher.

On the other hand, fewer were people were killed in accidents at the workplace, a category that claims relatively few victims, in 1998. The number of people who committed suicide remained hardly changed.
