StatLine is being updated
StatLine will undergo a major update. The software on which it is based will be upgraded in 2025, but the process of transferring data will continue after that. This will also affect users of CBS statistics. For instance, API users will need to integrate the new APIs into their work process by mid-2025.
New StatLine based on the internationally used open-source platform ‘.STAT suite’
The current StatLine databank has served as the CBS statistics database for more than 25 years. Now the time has come to switch to new software based on an international standard: .Stat Suite. This is an international standard-based platform for the efficient production and dissemination of statistical data, using SDMX (Statistical Data and Metadata eXchange) as its (meta)data standard. SDMX is already used by Eurostat, a number of statistical offices, the European Central Bank, various national banks and international organisations such as the IMF.
When will these changes be introduced?
- First, a beta version (involving a limited number of tables) will be launched in Q1 2025.
- The updated version of StatLine will go live using the updated APIs in Q3 2025.
Changes to API services
The APIs at CBS are also being updated. Our data will be transferred to the new technical base of Stat-suite and the associated international data standard SDMX. The new technical base is fundamentally different from the one we currently use, which is why we will need to replace the APIs. This means that users will also need to make changes in order to continue using our data.
Special event for users of open data
Before the new system goes live in 2025, we will organise an information day for users of our data. Participants will have the opportunity to share their knowledge and experience of working with open data, and to address the changes involved in this innovation.
Three of our external StatLine data users will share the results based on their tests using a number of sample datasets. Participants will be able to exchange experiences and learn more about the SDMX and the .Stat environment, and there will also be plenty of time for questions.
