Table explanation

This table provides information on the quantity and composition of waste that is generated during post-separation of mixed household waste that has been collected by municipalities and delivered to a post-separation facility. Municipalities receive these figures from a waste processor, who often processes the waste of multiple municipalities. Thus they report the composition to municipalities. Figures are available for the fractions of mixed household waste that are delivered by municipalities, the fractions that have been recovered from this mixed waste and the mixed waste that remains after post-separation and is incinerated.

Under the tab ‘mixed household waste’ the fractions are shown both together (‘mixed household waste’) as by place within the post-separation process (‘post-separation’). Municipalities that are not engaged in post-separation of mixed household waste, have no values in the table (blank values)

With the exception of the remaining mixed waste that is incinerated, waste that is generated through post-separation can be processed further in other forms of waste treatment into a new type of waste or into a so-called secondary resource that can be used to make new products. These further steps in waste treatment are not described in this table.

Data available from: 2023.
