Dataset is not available.

This table contains figures about batteries for electricity storage with a storage capacity > 1 MWh.
This concerns the number of systems, storage capacity and power, with the end of the reporting year as the reference date. It also concerns gross production, own use and the input of electricity over the entire reporting year.

Statistics Netherlands has started statistics on batteries following an update of the EU Regulation on Energy Statistics, in which it was agreed to compile statistics on battery systems > 1 MWh.

Data available:
From: 2022

Status of the figures:
Figures up to and including 2022 are revised provisional.

Changes as of June 28th 2024:
None. This is a new table.

When will new figures be published?
Revised provisional figures: September of the following year.
Definitive figures: November of the second year following the reporting year.

Description topics

Batteries; number of systems
The number of systems concerns the number of projects at a separate location. A project may include multiple batteries or containers of batteries at the same location. This concerns the number of systems at the end of the reporting year.
Batteries; power
The power concerns the maximum amount of electricity that can be generated per unit of time. The power is shown in MegaWatt (MW). This concerns the amount of power at the end of the reporting year.
Batteries; capacity
The capacity concerns the storage capacity and indicates the maximum amount of electricity that can be stored. The capacity is shown in MegaWatt hours (MWh). This concerns the amount of capacity at the end of the reporting year.
Batteries; gross production
The gross production is the amount of electricity discharged (at DC level) including own use and losses. Production is shown in thousand kilowatt hours (1000kWh) for the entire reporting year.
Batteries; own use
This concerns the consumption of electricity for supporting processes and internal systems. Consider temperature regulation, control technology and voltage conversion. Losses in the primary process itself, such as self-discharge is excluded.
The losses in the primary process itself are not explicitly requested, but can be calculated as the difference between the electricity for charging and the gross production.
Own use is shown in thousand kilowatt hours (1000kWh) over the entire reporting year.
Batteries; charging input
Input is the electricity used to charge the battery, measured at the battery's DC (direct current) level. This may involve electricity from the public grid, but also electricity directly from a production installation such as a power plant, solar or wind farm. The input is shown in thousand kilowatt hours (1000kWh) over the entire reporting year.
