Table explanation

This table contains figures on the domestic production of renewable electricity, as well as imports and exports of certificates for renewable electricity. A distinction is made between gross and net production and normalised and not normalised production. The data is broken down by energy source and technology. There are four main headings: hydro power, wind energy, solar photovoltaics and biomass.

Data available from:
1990 to 2001 annually and from 2002 to 2013 also quarterly.

Changes as of 12 June 2014:
None, this table has been stopped.

When will new figures be published?
No longer applicable.

Description topics

Production of electricity
Domestic production of renewable electricity.
Normalised
To reduce the impact of accidental weather conditions on the production figures of wind and hydro power, these figures are normalised according to the EU Renewable Energy Directive (RED). Normalised production in a certain year is calculated by the capacity in the concerning year times the average production by capacity in the preceding five (wind) or fifteen (hydro power) years.
In principle, solar production also depends on weather. However, in the RED it is agreed to refrain from applying normalisation for solar. For solar energy and biomass normalised production is equal to not normalised production. Normalised figures are only available annually.
Gross production
Gross domestic production of renewable electricity. This includes the own use of electricity by the installation that produces electricity.
Production of electricity
Renewable, normalised, gross production of electricity in millions of kilowatt-hour.
Relative to total use of electricity
Renewable, normalised, gross production of electricity, relative to total domestic gross electricity consumption (including transport losses).
Not normalised
Not normalised production of electricity is the real production.
Gross production
Gross domestic production of renewable electricity. This includes the own use of electricity by the installation that produces electricity.
Production of electricity
Renewable, not normalized, gross production of electricity in millions of kilowatt-hour.
Relative to total use of electricity
Renewable, normalized, gross production of electricity, relative to total domestic gross electricity consumption (including transport losses).
