Description topics

Orders
'Orders received' refers to the value of the orders received in the
previous month. Possible answers are: increased, remained the same
and decreased. Subsequently, the order position is established in
combination with the production, expressed in months of work. Orders
received and order position are referred to in terms of large, normal
and small for the time of year (see: 'evaluation'). Thus, seasonal
effects are taken into account. Orders include domestic as well as
foreign orders. Therefore, in addition to the total, several indicators
have been calculated for domestic and foreign order position and
orders received. The answers are weighted according to the company's
turnover value. Domestic orders received are weighted by domestic sales,
foreign orders received are weighted by foreign sales.
Orders received
Response percentages to the question: 'Compared with the month before,
has the value of orders received last month increased, remained
the same or decreased?'.
Foreign orders
Foreign orders increased
Foreign orders remained the same
Foreign orders decreased
Foreign orders balance
The weighted percentage of manufacturers reporting orders
received have increased minus the percentage reporting they have
decreased. This balance gives an insight into the direction the value
of foreign orders received developed in the previous month compared
with the month before.
Because of the introduction of the new Business Survey Netherlands, this
variable is no longer part of the questionnair from October 2008 onwards.
Order position
Response percentages to the monthly question: 'The total order position,
in regular working hours, is the equivalent of XXX months of work.'
Opinion on order position
Response percentages to the monthly question:' What is the order position,
taking the season into account?'
Possible answers are: large, normal and small.
Abroad
Foreign order position large
Foreign order position normal
Foreign order position small
Foreign order position balance
The weighted percentage of manufacturers reporting the foreign order
position is large minus the percentage reporting it is small.
This balance gives an insight into the satisfaction of manufacturers about
the foreign order positions compared with the previous balances.
Foreign sales
Response percentages to the quarterly question: "Will foreign sales
increase, remain the same or decrease in the next three months?"
The response is weighted to the company's turnover value.
Foreign sales increase
Foreign sales remain the same
Foreign sales decrease
Foreign sales balance
The weighted percentage of manufacturers expecting an increase
in foreign sales minus the percentage expecting a decrease.
This balance gives an insight into the direction in which foreign sales
will develop in the next three months.
