What is SBI?

Standard Industrial Classification (SBI) is a method of classifying economic activities. Each company receives a code from the Chamber of Commerce that indicates how the company’s primary economic activities are viewed. To take a simple example: is the business a baker’s or a butcher’s? SBI has five levels. Each economic activity is therefore represented by a maximum of five digits.

CBS uses SBI to classify businesses by their principal activity and to come up with an overview of the economy.
