Globalisation is a process that encompasses economic, technological, institutional and social developments. This dossier mainly focuses on the economic aspects of globalisation.
Due to the ongoing internationalisation of production, national economies are becoming more and more interwoven. This is certainly true for the Netherlands with its open economy. The process of economic globalisation is characterised by expanding international trade and foreign direct investments along with a larger role for multinationals.
The central focus of this CBS research agenda is on monitoring the position of the Netherlands in the global goods and services trade, financial capital flows and the internationalisation of businesses. In addition, CBS examines the consequences of globalisation for the Dutch economy. What are the effects of globalisation on national economic growth, employment, production, labour productivity, wages and innovation?
