Dissertation on estimating the undercoverage of a population register, and the effects of violating the assumptions of capture-recapture methods and missing values.

This thesis describes how the capture-recapture method can be used to arrive at an estimate of the population of the Netherlands. It was examined how assumptions and implicit coverage affect the estimator. Likewise, how to deal with possible practical problems such as missing values was examined. The thesis thus contributes to general knowledge about the capture-recapture method as well as about estimation within official statistics.
