In this thesis we formalize the logical structure of questionnaires and suggest tests for automatic checking and correcting the collected survey data.

In chapter 1 the logical structure of a questionnaire is formally introduced, including the routing structure and the edit structure.

In chapter 2 some tests are discussed to check the correctness of the logical structure.

In chapter 3 data editing is discussed, in particular methods for edit error localization.

In chapter 4 we give a complete enumeration of all types of missing values that can be found in databases.

In chapter 5 we consider an estimation problem in the presence of missing data in the data set, viz. the estimatíon of a probability densíty of a díscrete varíable y.

In chapter 6 we consíder some statistical and computational aspects with respect to imputation.
