Estimating monthly labour force figures during the COVID-19 pandemic in the Netherlands.
Monthly figures on the labour force in the Netherlands are based on the Labour Force Survey and are estimated using a multivariate structural time series model. The lockdown due to the corona crisis implies that face-to-face data collection temporarily stopped. This causes sudden changes in the mode effects in the outcomes. In addition, the lockdown has a strong effect on the actual development of the monthly labour force figures. This paper describes how the time series model separates the effect of the lockdown on the monthly labour force figures from the sudden change in the mode effects.
