Inflation down in April

• Petrol, flowers and plants temper inflation
• Dutch inflation still much lower than European rate 

According to Statistics Netherlands consumer prices index, inflation in the Netherlands was 2.0 percent in April. This is 0.2 of a percent point lower than in March. The decrease in inflation is accounted for by price developments for petrol, flowers and plants. Petrol prices rose by less in April than in March compared with twelve months previously. Prices of flowers and plants fell by more than in March. Flowers and plants cost 11.5 percent less than in April last year.

Dutch inflation measured according to the European method (HICP) fell to 1.7 percent in April. According to Eurostat, inflation in the eurozone fell to 3.3 percent. This means that inflation in the eurozone is nearly twice as high as in the Netherlands. The main reasons for this are the smaller price changes for food, rent, energy in the Netherlands than in the eurozone.
