Using themes such as youth care, growing up in unequal circumstances, education, employment, substance use, crime and well-being, the 2022 Annual Report of the National Youth Monitor describes how youth in the Netherlands fared in 2021. The previous edition of the Annual Report showed changes in the living situation of young people in 2020, the first year of the coronavirus pandemic. In this edition, the central question is to what extent these developments continued in 2021.
Where possible, the Annual Report focuses on developments and regional differences. The situation of young people in the Caribbean Netherlands is also discussed. New this year is a focus on workers in the broad youth domain and what they think of working conditions. In addition, a tour was made of a number of municipalities, the Association of Netherlands Municipalities (VNG) and Jeugdzorg Nederland to further explore the labour market challenges of youth care.
The Annual Report was compiled by CBS in cooperation with the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport.
