Earnings from exports in a given sector are the total earnings obtained in the Netherlands from the export of goods by the relevant sector. This is the added value that remains after deducting the cost of the imports required (raw materials, semi-manufactured goods, services) in order to produce the goods in question. These may also be goods produced or traded (in part) by a different sector (as in the case of the wholesale trade). Earnings from exports therefore do not accrue solely to the exporting sector.
The figures presented here exclude ‘production abroad’ (goods that are sold abroad by Dutch companies but which are never actually brought to the Netherlands). The figures on earnings from exports in StatLine do include ‘production abroad’ and therefore deviate from those shown here. Back to article
