Most industries produced less than in the same month last year. Among the larger industries, output fell most sharply in the transport equipment industry, while repair and installation of machinery recorded the largest increase.

Output decreased in November
A more accurate picture of short-term output developments is obtained when figures are adjusted for seasonal effects and the working-day pattern. After adjustments, manufacturing output fell by 0.8 percent from October to November.
Adjusted for seasonal and working-day effects, manufacturing output is seen to fluctuate significantly. In the spring of 2020, output declined rapidly and a low point was reached in May 2020. After that, output picked up again, until May 2022. The trend has reversed since then. In November 2023, output was at its lowest level in 3 years.

Manufacturers more negative in December
Dutch manufacturers were more negative in December than in the previous month. They were mainly more negative about the order positions and the expected output over the next three months.
Germany is an important market for the Dutch manufacturing industry. In December, German entrepreneurs were slightly less negative than in November, according to Eurostat. In November, the calendar adjusted output generated by the German manufacturing industry was down by 4.5 percent year on year. Relative to October, output fell by 0.4 percent, as reported by Destatis.
