E-bikes are bicycles powered by an electric motor. The number of e-bike fatalities is being recorded by CBS as of 2016. Last year, 80 registered road fatalities were people who had the fatal accident while riding an e-bike. This number is up from 2020 (74). The number of e-bike fatalities may be higher. CBS depends on the type of bicycle mentioned in the Public Prosecutor's official report or on the medical certificate of cause of death. Often, no distinction is made between regular bicycles and e-bikes here. If no distinction can be made, these fatalities are included in the category regular bicycles.
