The Environmental accounts describe the relationship between the environment and the economy in the Netherlands. In order to obtain a consistent description, the Environmental accounts are directly matched with the macroeconomic data in the National accounts. Greenhouse gas emissions here include all emissions as a result of production and consumption activities within the Dutch economy. This means that, for example, emissions by the Dutch transport sector, e.g. maritime and air transport on Dutch territory and abroad are included. On the other hand, emissions in the Netherlands by non-residents, e.g. foreign tourists, are not included. Emissions released as a result of biomass combustion also count towards emissions from Dutch economic activities. Due to their short-cycle nature, biomass combustion emissions are not included in the IPCC figures.
