Manufacturing output prices over 17 percent up in September

Statistics Netherlands (CBS) reports that prices of Dutch-manufactured products were on average 17.1 percent up in September 2021 year-on-year. In the previous month, prices were 15.1 percent up.

Soaring crude oil prices

Output prices are strongly affected by crude oil price developments. In September, the price of a barrel of crude North Sea Brent oil was almost 64 euros on average, 78.5 percent higher than in the same month last year. In August 2021, the crude oil barrel price stood at nearly 60 euros, 57 percent up on August 2020.

In September, prices of petroleum derivatives were up by 81.3 percent year-on-year. In August, they were up by 52.2 percent. In the chemical industry as well, output prices are generally linked to crude oil price developments. Output prices of chemical products were 36.7 percent higher in September than in the same month last year. In August, prices increased by 36.2 percent year-on-year.

Prices in all of the manufacturing industries were higher in September 2021 than in the same month last year.

Prices of manufactured products increased in September

Manufacturing output prices rose by 1.1 percent in September relative to August. They increased by 1.3 percent on the export market and by 0.9 percent on the domestic market.
