Manufacturing output prices almost 15 percent up in August

Statistics Netherlands (CBS) reports that prices of Dutch-manufactured products were on average 14.9 percent up in August 2021 year-on-year. In the previous month, prices were 13.9 percent up.

Soaring crude oil prices

Output prices are strongly affected by crude oil price developments. In August 2021, the crude oil barrel price stood at almost 60 euros, 57 percent up on August 2020. In July, the price of a barrel of crude North Sea Brent oil was almost 63 euros, 67 percent higher than in the same month last year.

In August, prices of petroleum derivatives were up by 52.1 percent year-on-year. In July, they were up by 48.9 percent. In the chemical industry as well, output prices are generally linked to crude oil price developments. Output prices of chemical products were 35.2 percent higher in August than in the same month last year. In July, prices increased by 34.2 percent year-on-year.

Prices in all of the manufacturing industries were higher in August 2021 than in the same month last year.

Prices of manufactured products increased in August

Manufacturing output prices rose by 0.8 percent in August relative to July. They increased by 0.8 percent on the export market and by 0.7 percent on the domestic market.
