House prices over 9 percent higher in October

In October 2020, prices of owner-occupied dwellings (excluding new constructions) were on average 9.1 percent higher than in the same month last year. This is the highest price increase in almost two years. This is evident from price monitoring of existing owner-occupied dwellings by Statistics Netherlands (CBS) and The Netherlands’ Cadastre, Land Registry and Mapping Agency.

House prices show upward trend

House prices reached a low in June 2013. The trend has been upward since then. In 2019, the price increase temporarily slowed down, but prices continued to rise faster afterwards. The index reached a new record high in October 2020. Compared to the low in June 2013, house prices were up by over 54 percent on average.

More housing transactions in October

According to The Netherlands’ Cadastre, the total number of transactions recorded over the month of October stood at 22,146. This is nearly 18 percent higher than one year previously. Over the first ten months of this year, a total of 190,854 dwellings were sold. This represents an increase of over 7 percent relative to the same period in 2019.
