People who were criminally detained as at reference date 30 September. This concerns either prisoners held on remand and not yet convicted in the first instance (staying in a house of detention) or convicted offenders staying in prison. These figures concern adult as well as juvenile offenders at the age of 16 or 17 who were imprisoned on the basis of adult criminal law. Minors convicted on the basis of juvenile law stay in juvenile detention institutions. The latter group is not covered in this news release.
