CBS World Café VII - Vulnerabilities in the semiconductor supply chain

The theme of CBS World Café VII is “Vulnerabilities in the semiconductor supply chain”. The worldwide shortages in semiconductors have highlighted their critical importance and exposed vulnerabilities in the semiconductor value chain. This has led to calls by policymakers for more funding to boost domestic research and manufacturing of semiconductors in the European Union and the United States. A supply-chain based analysis of semiconductors can be used to identify key linkages and vulnerabilities, both in a worldwide context and for the Netherlands in particular.

This seventh edition of the CBS World Café will be a webinar held in English and consists of three presentations:

• Cyrille Schwellnus is Senior Economist and Deputy Head of the Structural Policy Analysis Division at the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD). He will present recent work by the OECD on “Vulnerabilities in the semiconductor supply chain: Preliminary results based on disaggregated Inter-Country Input-Output data”.
• Tom Notten is Project Manager and Researcher at Statistics Netherlands (CBS). He will present new research on supply-chain related dependencies on semiconductors for the Netherlands.
• Jean Schreurs is Executive Director and Jos Bakker is Senior Director Trade Compliance at NXP Semiconductors NL. They will present about the semiconductor manufacturing and supply chain and will give a snapshot of the manufacturing process of a chip and its challenges from a supply and a geopolitical perspective.
